Get the good picture.
What's inside
Settings you set once and never think about again. Picture quality, switching audio tracks (hi, bilingual households), casting to a real TV, saving to your phone before a flight, and a couple of shortcuts that are worth knowing.00
First thing, first time
Set quality to 'Original'.
By default Plex shows a compressed version of everything. Moonrock can stream original-quality 4K all day; the bottleneck is whatever's between you and the server. If your internet can keep up (most can), flipping this one setting makes a visible difference.
- 01Open Plex. Tap your avatar (top right on web; sidebar menu on phone).
- 02Go to Settings → Quality.
- 03Set both Home streaming quality and Remote streaming quality to Original.
- 04On the TV app, you can also hit the gear icon mid-playback and pick Original for the current title.
★
Why it matters. Moonrock stores the full original file. Anything less than "Original" means your device is asking the server to transcode, which costs quality AND server CPU. Set it once, forget about it.
01
Bilingual household mode
Dual audio & subtitles.
A bunch of movies on Moonrock are Dual Audio — English and Spanish in one file. Switching is easy once you know where to look.
- 01Start playing the movie. Tap the screen to bring up controls.
- 02Look for the ⋯ More icon (three dots), or the speech- bubble icon on the TV apps.
- 03Pick Playback Settings.
- 04Under Audio, choose your preferred language. Under Subtitles, choose a language or None.
☞
Not every title has it. Only titles tagged Dual Audio or Multi-Sub in the description carry extra tracks. If you request one specifically for a language, mention it in the Overseerr request comment — we can usually find a better rip.
02
Phone → TV
Cast to a TV.
Four ways, ordered by quality:
- Apple TV + AirPlayBestBest picture. Full 4K, Dolby Vision, Atmos. Just open Plex on the Apple TV directly.
- Chromecast / Google TVCast from the Plex Android/iOS app with the cast icon. Solid 1080p, 4K on newer devices.
- Roku / Fire TVOpen Plex directly on the TV app. Don't cast from your phone — quality drops.
- Samsung / LG / Smart TVNative Plex app if it has one. Otherwise add a Chromecast; built-in apps vary wildly.
⚡
Wired wins. If you stream on TV over WiFi and see buffering, a $10 ethernet adapter for your Apple TV / Roku / Fire TV eliminates 90% of it. Nothing you can do in software helps as much.

Planes, trains, cabins
Download for offline.
Both Plex and AudioBookshelf can save content to your device. Moonrock doesn't need to be reachable once it's on your phone.
- PlexOpen a movie / episode, hit the download icon (little cloud with a down arrow). Goes into 'Downloads' in the sidebar. Plays offline.
- AudioBookshelfTap a book, then the cloud icon. Done. Works for audiobooks, ebooks, and downloaded podcast episodes.

Download quality ≠ stream quality. Downloads use a separate quality setting. Double-check it in Plex → Settings → Remote Downloads; default is 2 Mbps, which looks rough on a big iPad.
